I am easily replaced

so dress me up and then toss me away

I am the remnants of recycled material,

just like his arsenal of lines

saved to sweep you off your feet;

I am tattered and worn,

silently corroding,

under siege from a sand filled wind;

waves crash as reinforcements

just to salt my wounds.

I am scorched and scorned

from a barrage of infantry rays

sent solely to penetrate and poison my soul

cause everyone’s just looking for some piece of mind,

buying time just to spend it searching for the right route;

and everyone’s just dying to live, living to die,

only to find they’re right where they began

when the clock runs out.

You play on repeat,

looped back and overlayed.

Time and time again,

I contemplate the incongruence

between what you mean and what you say;

the only way to filter what you mean from what you say,

I spend all my days aiming to please,

my nights spent solely shooting stars

toward the sky just to brighten up your life.

But I’ve left so many pieces so far behind,

that I can’t help but question what’s left of me.

Does he feel the warmth
that radiates from your smile?
Does your evanescent glow
leave him feverishly grasping at
the remains of his melted heart?
Does he go to sleep with your scent
lingering in his brain,
the blanket keeping him safe?

fairytale nightmare;
